Five Things to Do in New York City on New Years Eve

New Years Eve in the Big Apple. The sights, the smells, the sounds, there is nothing like it. There is no bigger night in New York City than New Years Eve. Millions of people from all over the world travel to the city to see the spectacle and expect a top notch experience. There are hundreds of things you could choose to do on New Years Eve, here are some of our favorites:

See the Ball Drop In Times Square

We should start by saying that this event is not for everyone.  While it is the most iconic New Years Eve celebration in the world, it can be a hectic event. Be ready to wait for hours in the largest crowd (of tourists) you have ever seen. Wear comfortable shoes, dress warm and make sure you have lots of pockets as bags are not allowed. Be aware that there are no public bathrooms so plan accordingly, once you leave your spot you won’t be able to return to it. Make sure you bring your camera. This is an event you will never forget and the best part is, it’s free!

The New Years Eve Ball at Webster Hall

This may be the most legendary New Years Eve party in Manhattan. Spend the night in six elaborate party rooms on 4 massive floors with a midnight balloon drop. The ticket price includes an open bar from 8pm to 2am. Don’t want to miss watching the ball drop? Cast your worries aside, it will be broadcasted live from the largest LED TV screen in New York City. Special live performances to be announced. Enjoy a complimentary champagne toast at midnight at this truly epic party.

Emerald Nuts Midnight Run

Not into the crowded club scene? Want to start off your 2017 with a healthy kick? Might we suggest signing up for the Central Park Emerald Nuts Midnight Run. The night kicks off the Pre-race festival with music and dancing at 10pm. There is a crazy costume parade and a Resolution Wall. Along with the festival, Tavern on the Green will be hosting a pre and post race Midnight Run celebration. Enjoy drinks, snacks and dancing a short walk away from the race site. The 4 mile Midnight Run begins at the stroke of midnight under a blanket of celebratory fireworks. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top runners of the night. Visit the New York Road Runner website for more information.

Phish at Madison Square Garden

Seeing Phish at Madison Square Garden on New Years Eve is a right of passage for every college kid. For four nights leading up to New Years Eve, this legendary jam band from Vermont brings the party to the big city. Phish’s four-night run at Madison Square Garden will conclude with the band’s 39th concert at the illustrious arena. The band first played there December 30, 1994. Check out these trippy festivities here  and here.

New York Harbor Fireworks

At midnight, all around the world, cities light up their skylines with epic fireworks displays. New York City is no different. You can watch the famous New York Harbor Fireworks from rooftops all over Manhattan. Many bars and clubs will offer rooftop access for this event. You could even watch them while on a Brooklyn Bridge walking tour.

There is an overabundance of things to do in Manhattan on New Years Eve. The possibilities are endless. No matter how you and your friends decide to spend the night, just be sure to be prepared and stay safe. Collegiate Storage and Rental wish you all a happy and healthy 2017.
